Wind Power Generation Up-close

Date: 13 November 2013 : 10:00 - 16:00

Siemen’s Energy Service Training Centre in Newcastle delivers training to many technician and engineering staff at the company. The centre has dedicated areas containing wind, steam and gas turbines and generator technology, where employees and apprentices are trained in an environment closely resembling that which they will experience in the field.

The £8 million Energy Service Training Centre was opened in 2011 to provide a unique in-house training environment for service technicians working on both fossil and renewable power plants. It is a centre for excellence for the development of skills and the delivery of comprehensive safety and technical training. The training centre incorporates the wind power training school, a unique training environment in the UK, and offers a chance to see full-size 2.3MW and 3.6MW nacelles as well as viewing the training facilities.

The day will offer talks on the current energy market, the next development phase for wind farms and the skills requirements. There will be tours and for the intrepid, the experience of a simulated evacuation from a 15m high wind turbine.

The session is ideal for:

  • Curriculum leaders in renewables and power, general engineering, environmental engineering, electrical & electronics
  • Lecturers and assessors in engineering, including mechanical/manufacturing, electrical & electronic
  • It will also be of interest to lecturers and teachers of science, including green technologies and sustainability
  • It will also be of interest to business development directors looking to understand the engineering and large-scale renewables sector
