In response to an article published in the Independent today, NEF CEO, Professor Sa'ad Medhat, has commented on the necessity of Government to address the skills shortage in science, engineering and technology within the UK and the need for collaboration of Government, educational institutions and big industry to improve the chronic technical and scientific skills-shortages that are threatening the future of many UK businesses.
The article in the Independent entitled 'UK relies on migration to fill one in five skilled jobs as experts warn of major 'skills shortage' was published in response to a review by Professor John Perkins at the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills of the provision of engineering skills in the UK economy.
